7 Easy Rules To Simplify Your Life
I enjoy creating a few simple rules to live by that take away some of the stress of everyday life. These rules are simple to commit to, but make a big difference in my life. I know they can make a positive difference in your life too!
I’ve been crafting a few rules that keep my life simple, so I don’t need to think about the little things so much. These rules change, depending on life’s circumstances— what I’m working on, where I am, what else is going on, etc.
I don’t get mad at myself if I need to bend a rule now and then … but try to stick with them as a general principle.
So here are the rules that have been working for me lately:
Get the important stuff done before anything else
Email, online reading, social media, etc. … these can eat up your entire day if you let them. So I make sure I get to the most important stuff, which can get pushed back and back until you don’t have the time or energy to do them. For me, this means meditation and writing, along with some distraction-free reading, before I get to email or the rest.
Wear the same thing every day
I have a handful of clothes I wear: grey or black T-shirts, with my favorite pair of workout pants (or shorts, if I’m at home). I can throw any of the shirts on with my jeans or shorts, so I don’t think about what I wear. Side note: I also don’t worry about my hair often. Hello, ponytail!
Wake up early!
Studies show that “morning people” are more likely to anticipate problems and minimize them efficiently, which leads to more success. Early risers report using their morning quiet time for organization, goal-setting, and planning out their days and weeks ahead. Mornings are my favorite time of the day! The kids are still sleeping which means I can sneak in an early treadmill run, drink my coffee in peace, and set my goals and tasks for the day! If I could just recommend one of these tips to you, this is the one! Try it for a week and see the results yourself!
Put limits on certain things
There are things I enjoy, but I’ve found that if I overdo them, they’re not so good for me. And because I like them so much, I tend to overdo them. So moderation through limits. Netflix and chill is the best, seriously, but it’s probably not a good idea to do this for two days straight. Enjoy the downtime and get back to productivity when you can.
End your day with a clean kitchen
Few things feel better than waking up to a clean space. At the end of the day, when dinner is done and the kids are in bed, I take fifteen minutes to give everything a quick cleanup and wipe-down. I notice that this easy task affects my mood for the rest of the evening— and makes heading into the next day a breeze.
Wash your face
No matter your skin type, you want to wash your face at least once a day — in the evening to remove any dirt, makeup, oil, and grime that’s built up on your skin throughout the day. I like to wash my face twice a day. That clean skin feeling is absolutely the best!

We, humans, feel comfortable doing things we do everyday. Any task that requires us to step out of our comfort zone, becomes annoying and burdensome.
