How do you go from designing pillow cases to wanting to start a subscription box? It’s a long story. Running a small business with three kids at home is not a small task. It’s hard work, each and every day. There are messes to clean, snacks to prepare, shoes to find, places to go, you name it. At the end of the day, it’s easy to feel exhausted, frustrated, and overwhelmed. It happens to all of us.
Over the past few months, what has helped me overcome these challenges the most was learning new habits and commiting to them. When I succeed at learning a new good habit, I feel satisfied, joyful, and thrilled to have accomplished something. Good habits are absolutely the secret to success. In seven months, my small shop has grown into something so much bigger than I could have imagined. My products have been featured on three TV segments (working on a fourth right now), I have made so many friendships with other businesses and photographers, I have made collabs with HGTV stars, and I’ve been interviewed twice about my shop. I couldn’t have done any of this if I hadn’t been consistent with good habits and motivation from other people.
My lightbulb moment was a few months ago. I desperately needed to respond to emails, the dishes were overflowing in the sink, and I had two of my daughters crying because they wanted to be snuggled. It was tough, I promise. I stopped everything and snuggled with my kids and felt terrible about not getting things done better. The next day, I woke up early and cleaned that kitchen immediately. It felt so good to have one thing crossed off my to-do list that early! The kids were still sleeping and so I decided to catch up on my emails. As I drank my morning coffee, I planned my social media posts for the day and opened my domain for my new website. I did all of this before the kids woke up! Waking up early and using those hours in the best way possible was the best thing I could have done for myself, my business, and my family. Little habits like this one make a huge impact in your life. Whether it is a great morning routine, regular exercise, going to bed early, or even keeping your car organized—these little habits add up.

We, humans, feel comfortable doing things we do everyday. Any task that requires us to step out of our comfort zone, becomes annoying and burdensome.
